Wiccan Lies by DJ Shaw Review

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Wiccan Lies

MacKenzie just realized the bogeyman is real and he lives right next door. The only problem is she doesn’t know if she’s a part of his life, or he’s a part of hers. After the death of her father, MacKenzie discovered a letter that changed her life forever. Now with the knowledge she is Wiccan, she embarks on a journey to discover her true self. On that path she meets Damion, a man she is drawn to on a primal level. Since their chance encounter she has strange life-like dreams and tries to keep him at arm’s length. Not trusting her reaction to him, she relies on her instinct to lead her through their time together.

DJ is a great writer. I started reading and couldn’t put the book down. We are introduced to MacKenzie and Damion. As they try to start a relationship Mac learns some things about herself and her mom. She is a Wiccan and she learns that not everyone are who they seem to be. That includes Damion, her best friend’s husband, and her own father.  The book draws you in from the very beginning.  If you haven’t added it to your TBR list yet you need to. I look forward to reading more of DJ’s books.

Author Bio

Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1977, DJ Shaw was 17 before she was able to see most of the United States. When she was 17, she decided to join the fair, traveling with them to Texas, Oklahoma, and Louisiana. Once the fair arrived in Lake Charles, DJ had decided it was time to go home, that she had had enough of traveling with the fair. She much rather preferred to sit around writing, or even telling, the lives of the people who lived in her head. She had been good at story-telling from the time she was about ten, when she scared herself so bad with her story of the Boogey-man that she couldn’t move off her bed. Her siblings would come to her for their scare fix, because they knew she could come up with something on the spot.

Having found what she loved to do at an early age, she continued to write down her stories and any poetry that came into her head. She had stacks upon stacks of notebooks filled with her work. Her love of horror movies made her stories that much more chilling.
When she’s not writing, she’s listening to music, supporting her favorite adopted brother and his band “Traveler in Pain”, playing with her five children, spending time with her husband of seven years or watching horror movies in the middle of the night just for the scare factor.

A time for hope

A Time for Hope by T Gephart

Lexi Reed was unstoppable, or so she thought. As the PR manager of international rock band, Power Station and living in New York, she was a long way from her old life in Melbourne, Australia. Having captured the heart and married one of the sexiest men alive (Power Station’s guitarist, Alex Stone) Lexi was living beyond any fantasy she could have ever imagined. Having finally allowed the walls from her past to fall, Lexi had not only learnt to trust again but had given herself completely to Alex, her one true love.

Lexi happiness was short lived when heartache and trauma throw everything she knew into turmoil. Her world came crashing down around her, and now Lexi is struggling to regain her sense of self. Unable to regroup and heal under the scrutiny of the media and her well-intentioned loved ones, she can’t seem to find the road back to the old “Lexi.”

Alex is devastated. His beautiful, intelligent and once confident wife is now distant and guarded, the product of the brutality she has suffered. He feels powerless but is determined not to lose her.

With her gorgeous rock star husband by her side and her eclectic but devoted circle of friends, Lexi starts over. In order to find a way to reconcile the past and build a future, she must let go of all her safety nets and trust those around her.

In this final installment of the Lexi series, we join Lexi and Alex on their journey of rediscovery. Relationships are tested, terms are renegotiated and lives are irrevocably changed. With the hope that their love for each other is strong enough to carry them through, Lexi and Alex gamble everything in search of their happily ever after.

She and Alex are a great couple. With the help of Alex and their friends Lexi is able to start healing. The story is very powerful. About The Author

T GephartT Gephart is an indie author from Melbourne, Australia.

T’s approach to life has been somewhat unconventional. Rather than going to University, she jumped on a plane to Los Angeles, USA in search of adventure. While this first trip left her somewhat underwhelmed and largely depleted of funds it fueled her appetite for travel and life experience.

With a rather eclectic resume, which reads more like the fiction she writes than an actual employment history, T struggled to find her niche in the world.

While on a subsequent trip the United States in 1999, T met and married her husband. Their whirlwind courtship and interesting impromptu convenience store wedding set the tone for their life together, which is anything but ordinary. They have lived in Louisiana, Guam and Australia and have travelled extensively throughout the US. T has two beautiful young children and one four legged child, Woodley the wonder dog.

An avid reader, T became increasingly frustrated by the lack of strong female characters in the books she was reading. She wanted to read about a woman she could identify with, someone strong, independent and confident who didn’t lack femininity. Out of this need, she decided to pen her first book, A Twist of Fate. She enjoyed the process so much that when it was over she couldn’t let it go.

T loves to travel, laugh and surround herself with colourful characters. This inevitably spills into her writing and makes for an interesting journey – she is well and truly enjoying the ride!

Based on her life experiences, T has plenty of material for her books and has a wealth of ideas to keep you all enthralled.

T self-published her first novel through Smashwords, is about to release her second novel on the same platform and is currently writing the third book in the Lexi Trilogy.

A dangerous man and an unbelievable offer—she should have run….

Starship navigator Hanna Baskira is entangled in a job contract with a hostile merchant-trader who doesn’t trust women pilot-navs. Captain West has hidden agendas. He’s also the commander of an elite military crew. They’re the intersystem government’s secret weapons—and the captain is the most dangerous weapon of all.

He plans on using Hanna in his espionage against an intersystem rebel network, but the captain has a thing about sharing plans…. And she has trust issues with the military.

If she wants to survive her new job, Hanna must trust the unpredictable captain of secrets and resist her attraction to him.

Great book. It has a very interesting story line. There are a few twists and turns that make it one of those you can’t put down because you want to find out what happens next. Hanna has some decisions to make whether right or wrong. She knows Captain West can’t be trusted but she falls for him and must trust him whether she wants to or not because it will lead to her survival while with him. I would highly recommend it to others.  I look forward to reading more of her books.

About the Author:

D. Martin likes science and finding out how things work. She has a science degree from Eastern Illinois University, where modern dance and creative writing also caught her interest. Fierce attraction pushes them closer as mistrust tears them apart. Deception lays in wait around every corner as they struggle to find the mastermind behind the traitors to the Order of Night. As the tension rises, desire begins to burn with an intensity that threatens to consume, leaving them to question whether they can find what they seek with their lives and hearts intact.

This the second book in the Order of Night series. Just like with the first one I really enjoyed reading it.  I like the series. The use of the different supernatural creatures like vampires and shifters is great. It has some great twists and turns to it. The ending was very interesting. The world and characters she has created are amazing. I look forward to reading more of the series.

War’s Passion by Lia Davis Review

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

War’s Passion

Author: Lia Davis

Series: Sons of War Book 1

Genre: Paranormal RomanceFantasy

Heat Level: 4 Flames

War's Passion

After losing her parents in a brutal attack from a monster straight out of her nightmares, Gwendolyn Preston tries to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Along with her best friend, she moves to a small fishing village on the coast of Maine to find a new life away from the nightmares that haunt her. Just when she believes her life could go back to normal, the deliciously dark and handsome Markus Sullivan disrupts her hopes to grieve in peace.

Markus drew the short straw when it came to being the liaison between his father, Ares—God of War—and his brothers. When he discovers that the earth bound demi-gods, known as the descendants, have banded together to start another rebellion against the gods, it becomes his number one priority to stop them.

That is until he meets Gwen, the granddaughter of Aphrodite, and the next target of the descendants. Together, their path is rife with passion and danger. It might take more than the son of War to win this battle…Gwen herself.

Absolutely loved this book. It has everything I love to read about. I love the use of mythology and the characters being family members to Ares and Aphrodite.  There are dragons as well. Lia has a great writing style. The world and characters she created are wonderful. Markus and Gwen are great together.  We are pulled into their world immediately and go along with them as they deal with the matter at hand which is to stop the descendants and keep Gwen alive. It has some great twists and turns.  I look forward to reading more of Lia’s books.

Today is the cover reveal for Look After You by Elena Matthews.
LookAfterYou ebook

Title – Look After You
Genre – New Adult
Publication date – 5th April 2014
Authors notes – Recommended for ages 18+ due to heavy subject matters of rape, violence, explicit language and sexual situations.

The birth of your firstborn child is supposed to be the best day of your life, a joyous occasion. Well that’s what twenty-eight year old Ava Jacobson thought. That is until her life takes a drastic turn for the worse and her daughter is born three months earlier than planned, weighing only two pounds, two ounces.

A distraught Ava is thrown into the deep end of motherhood and instead of being able to hold her baby like other moms, she has to sit back and watch her daughter fight for her life in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit, while her fiancé, Sebastian Gilbert is in the midst of a messy war in Afghanistan. Ava is left to pick up the pieces with the help of her only friend, Caleb Summers.

When her vulnerable state hits an all time high, she finds solace in an unexpected pair of intense green eyes. Eyes that belong to her daughter’s doctor, Ashton Bailey, and she falls, like she has never fallen before. However, for the sake of Sebastian she desperately tries to fight against her newfound feelings for Ashton, but eventually the pull between the two is so strong that it is impossible for her to stay away.

Then when Ava is convinced things can’t possibly get any worse, a cloud of blackness closes in on her as the secret demons of her past come back to haunt her, with news that will irreversibly shake her entire world forever.

As Ava’s roller coaster ride she calls life begins to circle the drain, she quickly learns that even through the darkness of evil, there is always that one person who will look after you and have the ability to pull you away from the brink of no return, when nobody else can.

Two pounds, two ounces. That’s how much my baby girl weighed when she was born.

That was ten hours ago.

This wasn’t supposed to happen yet. I was supposed to have another thirteen weeks of pregnancy before I gave birth to my baby. I was supposed to have her nursery painted in pink with teddy bears surrounding the walls, her crib assembled with gorgeous soft blankets. I was supposed to have a baby shower, being showered with gifts and guessing the size of my baby. I was supposed to have time to come up with a name or at least discuss the possibility of names with my boyfriend. I was supposed to work up until my maternity leave, have at least a month of waddling around like a penguin and complaining about back pain or Braxton Hicks contractions.

I wasn’t supposed to give birth to her by C-section ten hours ago without my birthing partner and my boyfriend, without any warning, without understanding why my body had decided it wasn’t fucking good enough to carry my baby full term, without having her in my arms like most other moms do the minute their baby is born, without…without…without…fuck!

About The Author:

Independent author Elena Matthews was born in Manchester, United Kingdom, where she lives with her other half, but even after eight wonderful years, she is still waiting for that epic proposal. Elena enjoys spending quality time with her friends and family, especially her four-year-old niece, who is the apple of her eye. (A little monkey too!) Elena is positive she is the love child of Jekyll and Hyde. Thankfully, the joys of being an auntie, means she can hand her back to her mum and dad when she’s all tired out! (Elena, not her niece.)

Elena spent three years of her life at Salford University studying media production, to decide at the end of her degree she no longer wanted to pursue a career in the media. Instead, it took her another two and half years to realise her calling. Writing. Now she lives and breathes her writing. She even had to tell her colleagues at work whenever she is found daydreaming at her desk, it’s because she is conversing with her characters.
