This is my first year participating in the A to Z Challenge. The list of participants can be found here. Thanks to Arlee Bird and the co-hosts for hosting this awesome challenge. Check out the site here.
I’m also participating in a mini-hop that got started on theme reveal day when a few of us realized we had similar themes. It’s called Supernatural A to Z. Click below to check out the list of participants. 🙂
Today’s creature is Changelings. Folklore has them being the offspring of fairies, trolls, elves, or other legendary creatures. The legend is they are left in the place of human children. In Scottish folklore, it’s believed that children were taken as replacements for fairy children. In other lore, the belief was that human milk was a necessity for fairy children to survive. There is so much lore out there about Changelings, it makes me wonder if they aren’t walking among us even now.
If my kid looked like that first image, I’d be concerned…
I totally agree with you. I would probably run the other way.
cool. i love the pic from supernatural!
That it is. I’m not sure I would want to meet one though.
One of the creepiest monsters out there, for sure. That Supernatural episode gave me the wiggins. lol
It is. You’re not the only one. lol
Oo, my kids love Supernatural but I haven’t had time to start watching yet. It’s on my list. 🙂
I remember reading about changelings in fairy tales when I was young and they used to scare me. As an adult and a writer, I am more intrigued than scared by them now.

That first image is very, very creepy. Looks a bit like the salt monster from Star Trek :). I’ve always found the changeling myth to be very compelling.

What a great image! I love nasty things. Gave up on Supernatural after the first series. A day late so now off to read “D”. 🙂
Been thinking a lot about changelings for my next witch book. So far I have them as the offspring of hags and humans. Previously in other books I had them as the offspring of faeries.
Great post.

Boy, did that first picture scare the crap out of me! Wasn’t expecting it…
That was from an episode of the show Supernatural when they were dealing with them. It scared me when I watched the episode.
