This is my first year participating in the A to Z Challenge. The list of participants can be found here. Thanks to Arlee Bird and the co-hosts for hosting this awesome challenge. Check out the site here. I’m also participating in a mini-hop that got started on theme reveal day when a few of us realized we had similar themes. It’s called Supernatural A to Z. Click below to check out the list of participants. 🙂
Today’s wonderful creature is Elves. The elf is from Germanic mythology and folklore. The The early elves lore is dependent on Norse mythology. They were known to have magical skills. There are believed to be two types of elves. One type is light and the other is dark. The dark elves were referred to as Dwarves by historian and mythographer Snorri Sturluson Sturluson referred to the other elves as light elves. It is believed that Freyr, the god of fertility was tied to the elves by being given lordship of them. Want to find out more elves you can click here. My favorite elf is Legolas from Lord of the Rings.
I want to be able to shoot a bow like Legolas.
I also like Drizzt Do’Urden, a double-sword wielding dark elf from the Forgotten Realms series.
I play LOTRO and both of my characters are elves. It would be cool to be able to shoot a bow like Legolas. I’ll have to check out the Forgotten Realms series.
did you see the new drizzt book out? Night of the Hunter Companion’s Codex bk 1?
Leggy is my absolute fav character on lotr! and haldir too!
i haven’t read the drizzt series yet, but the pub. library didn’t have the first of the series ’til recently. so woot! something new to read.
Sounds like the kind of series I would like. Will check my local library to see if they have them.
Legolas- is he the most famous and loved elf ever? I didn’t know that elves originated in Norse mythology!
Yes, he is. I didn’t either until I started researching them for a future book I have in mind. 🙂
Legolas has to be the poster boy for elves thanks to LotR. Since Tolkein used a lot of Norse mythology for creating LotR, I suppose it isn’t surprising that their origin is Norse, but I hadn’t made the connection before. 🙂

That he is. I never made the connection until I was doing research on them. I love the books and the movies. 🙂
So that’s why those two bickered so much in LOTR! Apparently I really like male movie characters with long hair – Legolas, Armand….;)

It might be. I agree with you on the movie characters with long hair. Armand is one of my favorites as well. 🙂
I’d just like to meet Legolas. Not so much Gollum. Elven tales have their appeal.
It would be cool to meet him. I agree about Gollum. Yes, they do.
Oh yes, Legolas every time 🙂

Definitely. 🙂
I had no idea where elves originated but I do love them and Lord of the Rings! I love Legolas
I didn’t know either. Same here. I think a LOTR movie marathon is in the near future for me. 🙂
I’ve always loved elves – I firmly blame Tolkein 🙂 I love how they have come to be so much more than simply what myth made them too.

Elves are great. I blame Tolkein as well. The first time I read Fellowship and then saw the movie I was hooked even more into loving elves. 🙂
I think elves are very handsome, Legolas is indeed the best elf, not the ones working on Christmas (they are cute though) LOL
Elves are pretty awesome. I also enjoy half-elves; their struggles to find acceptance in either world makes for great drama.

I love Legolas as well, as all of Tolkien’s elves.
Definitely he’s my favorite. I just had a LOTR movie marathon. Never get tired of watching them. I see something I didn’t see before every time I watch them. 😉
