#AtoZChallenge: Elves

E This is my first year participating in the A to Z Challenge. The list of participants can be found here. Thanks to Arlee Bird and the co-hosts for hosting this awesome challenge. Check out the site here. I’m also participating in a mini-hop that got started on theme reveal day when a few of us realized we had similar themes.  It’s called Supernatural A to Z. Click below to check out the list of participants.  🙂

Today’s wonderful creature is Elves. The elf is from Germanic mythology and folklore. The The early elves lore is dependent on Norse mythology. They were known to have magical skills. There are believed to be two types of elves. One type is light and the other is dark. The dark elves were referred to as Dwarves by historian and mythographer Snorri Sturluson  Sturluson referred to the other elves as light elves. It is believed that Freyr, the god of fertility was tied to the elves by being given lordship of them. Want to find out more elves you can click here. My favorite elf is Legolas from Lord of the Rings.

    1. I play LOTRO and both of my characters are elves. It would be cool to be able to shoot a bow like Legolas. I’ll have to check out the Forgotten Realms series.

  1. Leggy is my absolute fav character on lotr! and haldir too!

i haven’t read the drizzt series yet, but the pub. library didn’t have the first of the series ’til recently. so woot! something new to read.

  2. Sukanya Ramanujan

Legolas- is he the most famous and loved elf ever? I didn’t know that elves originated in Norse mythology!

    1. Definitely he’s my favorite. I just had a LOTR movie marathon. Never get tired of watching them. I see something I didn’t see before every time I watch them. 😉
