Welcome to the first day of the A to Z challenge. This is my second year participating. This year’s theme was a fun one to put together. So, here it goes. Hope you enjoy. ๐

One of my favorite characters from LOTR is Aragorn. He was raised in Rivendell after his farther was killed when he was young. He went by the name Estel while growing up to protect him. As well as going by the name Strider when he became a ranger. The thing I like about Aragorn is his loyalty to his friends and the things he would do to make sure they were safe. ย He is one of those people you would want on your side in a fight. There are a lot of reasons I could list here as to why he’s one of my favorite characters but then the post would become way too long. ๐
A couple of years ago I found a fan made movie on youtube about Aragorn’s parents before he went to live in Rivendell. It is called Born of Hope. I liked it. The link to it is below. The same people who made it now have a web series called Ren that starts this summer. They have been filming it over the last few months or so.
*bookmarks the movie* Aragorn was one of my favs in the movie, but I have to admit, for some reason, I was always a complete Boromir fangirl when I first read the first book. Of course that might be because he died and that’s what I remember the most :).

Hi Tasha, Boromir was one of my faves as well. I was always drawn to Aragorn though even when I read the book. I guess it’s the mystery that surrounded him. ๐
I like Aragorn too, he’s always so noble.
Talking of fan made stuff, have you ever read Bagenders (http://bagenders.stormpages.com/), I love Aragorn in this as well, long-suffering and the most sensible of the lot of them as they live in a 3 bedroom semi in the North of England – it’s rather funny ๐

Hi Sophie, I think it was that and the mystery surrounding him for me. Have boookmarked it to check out. ๐
Watching the movie you linked to is now on my To-Do List. ๐
I will say, though, Aragorn’s introduction in The Fellowship of the Ring is one of the coolest intros to a character ever in a movie, in my humble opinion.

Hi Mary, I think you’ll enjoy the movie ๐ Yes his intro was definitely one of the coolest. ๐
Love Aragon and the actor Viggo who plays him. The best scene is the emotional one where he screams out in pain when he thinks Merry and Pippin are dead. Of course, he did break his toe! What a way to method act!
Viggo is one of my faves. Loved him as Aragorn. That scene was one of the best. ๐
Yay! I had to go and search for your reveal to see if your whole challenge is LOTR-themed. There’s another good movie floating around, maybe by the same people, called “The Hunt for Golllum.”
I like Aragorn, too, but I’d have to think hard about which character is my favorite. I am SO GLAD I found your blog on day 1. I’ve got a few Tolkien posts myself this month, and I blog about the books often. I’m in the middle of a really long series about them that I’m taking a break from for April, but it’s like 18 parts so far.
Happy A to Z!
Glad you found it. ๐ I had seen the movie listed on the side on youtube but never watched it. Definitely on my list to do so now. Will check out your posts. ๐
Cool! Our theme is a bit of a mishmash because we do pop culture with 10 or 12 contributors. My Tolkien posts will be L, T, and O. Irony: I almost did a Tolkien theme with my personal blog (my likes and comments point to the pop culture blog because I run it), and I was #100 on the list until I pulled out with that blog. If I had been able to get it together, we’d be blogging Tolkien and also be neighbors on the list.
Cool. I just started following it. I’ll definitely look for those posts. That would have been cool to have had another Tolkien theme going for this. ๐
He is one of my favorite characters as well! You just brought a smile to my face. ๐
I’m a big fan of the movies and his character is one of the reasons I’m a fan. ๐
Great topic. My favorite. Can’t wait to read the posts for the month.
Cool. There are more fun posts to come. I’ve tried to make it as fun as possible for everyone. ๐
Great choice to open your alphabet! Aragorn is fascinating.
Thanks. Yes, he is. I loved reading about his character and then watching him in the movies. ๐
I’ve never read LOTR (too much hype), but I enjoyed the films. Someday I may finally crack and attempt the books, since they’ve clearly stuck around and remained popular for a long time, not just the immediate trend.
I had read The Hobbit when I was little. With LOTR I actually had watched the movies first which made me want to read the books. Now, once a year I read The Hobbit and the LOTR books. I do movie weekends during the year and watch the movies. ๐
I shall have to watch that movie. ๐
Aragorn is one of my favourites in Lord of the Rings as well. I fell in love with the film version first because when I’d tried reading the books before I’d never made it past the third chapter, but when I read the book I could see they’d made the perfect choice with Viggo.

I’m so glad I opened with Aragorn. I’m loving how everyone is talking about him being their fave and about the movies and books. Reading the books and watching the movies got me started writing Fantasy.
totally agree!! althought the series was surrounding the hobbits and destroying the ring, Aragorn was the highlight and hero all through!! from the movie angle although i was a thorough Bloom fan so it had to be the elf that did it for me ๐
Yes, he was. I agree about Bloom. His character was great. It was fun to see him in The Hobbit movies. ๐
Beautiful site. Love Aragorn too.
Thanks. He was a great character. ๐
AWESOME! Glad I found this. I’m really looking forward to your posts for the A-to-Z and beyond. Thanks for sharing. I’ll watch the movie tonight ๐ I was going to ping Geno’O but I see he already found you. He’s got an amazing in-depth discussion/analysis of many things Tolkien. Again, thanks for sharing and if you get a minute to drop by Down Home Thoughts and leave a thought or two, please do ๐ Have an amazing A-to-Z challenge/
Hi Shawn, thanks for stopping by. Hope I can keep you entertained with the posts throughout A to Z. ๐
Hi Shawn! *waves*
*waves back* ๐
Hi Gene’O waving at Shawn! *waves*

I love Aragorn! He is my fave character in LOTR too!
A Deecoded Life | A to Z challenge
Hi Dee, thanks for stopping by. Love Aragorn. I think I may need to have a LOTR movie marathon this weekend. ๐
I love Aragorn. But I’m like Eowyn – he’s too good for me. Maybe as Strider, but not as Aragorn. Sigh.
Jemima
I have to agree about being Eowyn. I think if he had not already loved another she might have stood a chance either way. ๐ I love Aragorn but for me I have to say Strider as well. it was the mystery he had about him.
Oh cool Ill have to watch the movie. Aragorn is an involved character to be sure.
Glad someone is doing LOTR always enjoyable
Yes he is. Glad you’re enjoying the posts. ๐
Just came back for more eye candy at the start of my A to Z Road trip! Sigh…
Hi Jemima, welcome back. Enjoy. ๐
Love Aragorn, so handsome! LOL
Yes he is ๐
