#AtoZChallenge: Merry, Moria

M (1)

Merry or I should say Meriadoc ‘The Magnificent’ was a little trouble making hobbit along with Pippin. He became one of the most distinguished hobbits in the Shire. He is remembered being a member of the fellowship  as well as the things he did for the Shire upon his return. I do like Frodo and Sam too but Merry and Pippin are the ones that you can count to lighten the mood when need be but can be serious and have your back when you need them.

Moria was called Khazâd-dûm by the dwarves. It was a vast underground city and was the most known of the dwarven kingdoms. It was later called the ‘Black Pit’ but really didn’t get that name until the heirs of Durin fled the city. Mithril was discovered and mined for in Moria. Several times the dwarves tried to take back Moria but didn’t succeed. It remained a stronghold of orcs and goblins. There are two counts of the retaking being tried. One was when Thror, Thorin’s grandfather tried it with an army and didn’t prevail. Thror was killed in that battle and then later when Balin, Oin, and Ori (all of Thorin’s company) go and try. They are successful for a little while but then are killed in an attack. Tie-in between The Hobbit and LOTR. When the fellowship go into the mines of Moria they come across a tomb. The tomb holds the body of Balin and the skeleton that is holding the book is Ori.

Look forward to your comments. 🙂
