#IWSG: Publishing Paths….

Thanks to Alex for hosting this each month. Here is the complete list of participants.

IWSG Question: What publishing path are you considering/did you take, and why?

This is an interesting question to answer. I started out thinking it would be self-publishing all the way. I still think it will be as I learn more and more about traditional publishing in my classes.

Both have their pros and cons. I know for my career plan I want to be a self-publisher because I like the fact I can control everything from beginning to end. I know that I take on the financial responsibility and that’s okay. I like that with self-publishing you as the author get a final say on things like the cover for your books.

Traditional publishing is the harder of the two and the publisher bears most of the financial responsibility and that is a pro. I’m not saying that I’m ruling out traditional publishing because I am going to give it a try with at least one book I write just to go through the process at least once.

Look forward to your comments. 🙂

I”m with you there are pros and cons for both, I think I’m going to wait until I’ve finished something first before I decide 🙂

I’m glad I didn’t have to invest money in my books.
Taking a publishing class is smart. You’ll know what to do!

Hi Alex, yes it is. I’m glad that I have been able to take a publishing class or two while pursuing my master’s.

I am aiming for the traditional route, but I won’t deny it’s a tremendous challenge…one I’m not sure I’ll ever meet. But I keep trying…

Hi Liza, the traditional route is a challenge and I’m not ruling out that route completely. I have at least one story I know I’m going to go the traditional route with and then if after a while it’s not garnering interest I will self-publish it. 🙂

Hi Diane – congratulations on pursuing your masters … while actively writing … so you can move in various directions – seems like the learning blood is in you … good luck – cheers Hilary

    Happy Be-lated IWSG Day!
It’s good to be open-minded. I’m a self-publisher at heart, but I’m willing to pursue trad publishing from time to time.

Hi Toi, thanks. That’s me and I look forward to the challenges both paths bring. 🙂
