Happy Holidays! See you in 2020!

Hi everyone,

As I look back on 2019 I realize I had a pretty good year. I received my online teaching certificate and MFA in Creative Writing. I have written a full-length novel that I’m doing edits/revisions on now and have begun the outlining/writing of books two and three of the series. There are a few other stories I’m outlining/writing as well.

I plan to post about my goals/plans for 2020 during the first week of January. That will most likely be what my IWSG post will be about. I’m working on those goals/plans right now.

Be safe out there while celebrating over the next few weeks. 🙂

#IWSG: NaNo and Writing During the Holidays

Insecure Writers Support Group Badge

Thanks to Alex for hosting this each month. Here is the complete list of participants.

I didn’t win NaNo and that’s okay. I have 5k+ for the new book so I look at that as a win. The edits/revisions for Raven’s Fate are moving along nicely. I have changed one of the character’s names and now their part of the story is changing and growing. I love that. I hope to have it ready for publication in mid 2020. The beginning of 2020 isn’t going to happen and that’s okay. It’ll be ready when it’s ready. No cutting corners to get it published before it’s perfect to me. I will be starting the process of finding beta readers soon. It scares me but at the same time it’s going to be great to hear what those readers will have to say about it.

Although the holidays are upon us I’m not going to slack in getting the edits/revisions done or working on the next book and outlining the third one. Will keep everyone updated.

That’s it for now. Look forward to reading your comments. 🙂

Crimson Fire by Mirren Hogan

She had power at her fingertips, but the world had other ideas.

Magic was the last thing on Tabia’s mind — until she discovered she could use it. When her father hands her over to the princess of a neighbouring country to pay his debts, she may have the chance to learn how to control her new abilities.

But her new mistress’ enemies have plans of their own. Caught up in a web of divided loyalties, coercion and betrayal, Tabia can trust no one.

Can she find a way to regain her freedom and return home — or will the struggle cost her the ultimate price?

This is a great book. I had the pleasure to edit this one and then I re-read it recently. Readers who love a good fantasy read will want to grab this one. Starting Dec. 2nd it’s on sale for $.99 and the sale will last for one week.

You can go to Amazon to check it out.

Haunted Hearts by Christine Pope

Title: Haunted Hearts
Author: Christine Pope
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Cover Designer: Lou Harper – Cover Affairs
Editor: Katherine Tomlinson, Story Authority
Publication Date: November 20th, 2019
Blurb:
His prison lives in his very bones. She holds the key that could free him…or break him.
Elena Salazar doesn’t exactly have permission to house-sit, but she’s sure her cousin Ava won’t mind the not-quite break-in. After all, Ava would want her to feel safe. And free. Two concepts Elena’s still adjusting to after eleven years a prisoner in her own home, thanks to her terrifying ability to summon demons.
She manages to make peace with the resident ghost in Ava’s house, but she has to do some really fast talking when a tattooed, tautly muscled warlock shows up with Ava’s keys in his hand and deep-seated pain in his troubled eyes.
The Salvadoran Escobar clan is healing under new primus Gabriel’s leadership. But no one is likely to forget that the cruel former primus used Alessandro Escobar and his fearful gift as a weapon, unwilling though he was. When Gabriel sends him to Ava’s house for an extended “vacation,” Alessandro packs his bags with a heavy heart.
No one warned him the house was already occupied.
Elena is beautiful, skittish, fragile, with a demon for a friend and a nervous habit of hiding behind her books and her art. Alessandro drinks in her sweetness like water from a desert spring. But if he dares reveal who he is, what he is, the key to her heart could vanish, leaving him the lonely prisoner of his gift.
This time, for good.
Note: Haunted Hearts, the final book in Christine Pope’s Witches of Canyon Road series, can be enjoyed as a standalone paranormal romance.

Review

I couldn’t put it down. Christine has written another great story. I love the characters. It has some great twists and turns. Readers will be drawn into the story from the beginning. This is one you will want to add to your To Be Read pile.

#IWSG: NaNoWriMo Update

Insecure Writers Support Group Badge

Thanks to Alex for hosting this each month. Here is the complete list of participants.

It’s November and writing on book 2 of The Thornwick Chronicles has begun. I’m a little behind on my word count for NaNo and that’s okay. I will write as much as I can of book 2 while participating. Edits/Revisions for book 1 are going great. I’m liking the new direction the book is taking and the plot of book 2 is right in line with the overall story arch at the moment.

Sorry, I didn’t post the spooky things I had discussed in October’s IWSG post. Things behind the scenes took over and time got away from me. I do plan to update you on the Haunted South series I plan to write. At the moment, I plan for there to be a non-fiction series as well as a fiction series. More about it all at a later date.

That’s it for now. Look forward to reading your comments. 🙂

Tasia had longed to meet her baby brother ever since her mom said the bundle of joy that was coming would be someone Tasia would connect with for the rest of her life.
After her brother was born, Tasia and her dad paused in the doorway of her mom’s hospital room before entering.
Her dad held his hand out for Tasia to hold. “You can see him now.” His warm smile spread across his trimmed brown beard. “Finally.”
Taking his hand, she looked up at him and grinned. Before they reached her mom’s bed, he picked up Tasia. She held on to him, excited to finally see what a brother looked like. Her dad walked over to the newborn.
“Look, Tasia.” He smiled at her before looking at the infant.
The baby peeked out from under the blue blanket. Mom pulled it back to reveal more of his face. He wiggled his legs and arms, squirming around. Dad bent over so Tasia could get a closer look.
Her brother’s blue eyes opened and locked on hers. In that second, something magical and bizarre happened. Her ability to see didn’t come from her eyes. She saw through his and was staring at her own honey-colored eyes and blond hair that framed her face. She shuttered. Her connection with her brother was so intense, she couldn’t feel Dad’s arms holding her. She wondered if her brother was looking through her eyes.
The weight of her body returned as she no longer saw through his eyes but through her own. The longer she gazed at her brother, the more she tapped into his emotions. He noticed shapes and colors while being fascinated with Tasia’s face. A deep sense of devotion filled with everlasting love radiated inside of her, filling her heart with joy.
In that moment, Tasia and her brother held mutual admiration for each other. She would love him forever. She wasn’t scared of being a big sister anymore. She was determined to watch over him.
Dad put her down. Tasia hopped up on the edge of the bed. Her feet dangled as she gazed at her brother in awe.
“You bonded with him. Didn’t you?” Mom asked.
She nodded.
“You’re going to love being his older sister,” Mom said.
Tasia smiled at her mom then looked lovingly at her brother.
Among the life-changing revelations, Tasia sensed that they were meant to do great things. What, exactly, she didn’t know.
Tasia’s ability to see through her brother’s eyes only happened on the day Matt was born. After that, she could only sense his emotions if he was near. Their love was not diminished because of that. It grew stronger year after year.

Unseen Voices by Christine Pope

Title: Unseen Voices
Author: Christine Pope
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Cover Designer: Covers by Christian
Editor: Katherine Tomlinson, Story Authority
Publication Date: October 16th, 2019
Blurb:
Project Demon Hunters is canceled…but apparently no one told the demons.
Knowing how the horrifying events that took place while filming Project Demon Hunters shook his friend Michael Covenant to the core, Will Gordon readily says yes to Michael’s request to be ready — as a friend and as an Episcopal priest — in case psychic Rosemary McGuire calls for help.
Rosemary doesn’t know exactly why the show was canceled…other than a demon murdered the show’s producer, and the network buried every scrap of harrowing footage under a ton of hacker-proof security.
When an independent filmmaker shows up at Rosemary’s metaphysical bookshop with tantalizing clues that a backup copy of the missing footage exists, she promises Michael she’ll call some crusty old priest “in a pinch,” and begins following a trail of impossibly tiny bread crumbs.
But that trail doesn’t just lead her somewhere. It leads something to Rosemary, alarming enough that she calls Michael’s priest friend…who turns out to be way younger and heroically handsome than she could have ever anticipated. But the heat between them may be no match for the demonic fire that grows hotter and more dangerous the closer they get to the truth.

Review:

So who am I?
Well, I’m the crazy girl with an imagination that never shuts up. I LOVE scary movies. My friends laugh at me when I scare myself watching them and tell me to stop watching them, but who doesn’t love to get scared? I grew up in a small town nestled in the southern mountains of West Virginia where I spent days roaming around in the woods, climbing trees, and causing general mayhem. Nights I would stay up reading Nancy Drew by flashlight under the covers until my parents yelled at me to go to sleep.
Now, I live in a small town in West Virginia where I entertain my niece and nephew and watch the cats get teased by the birds and laugh myself silly when they swoop down and then dive back up just out of reach. The cats start yelling something fierce…lol.
I love books, I love writing books, and I love entertaining people with my silly stories.

#IWSG: Edits, Revisions, and Writing

Insecure Writers Support Group Badge

Thanks to Alex for hosting this each month. Here is the complete list of participants.

It’s been interesting going through the edits and revisions for Raven’s Fate. I seem to get new ideas for twists to the story every time I pick it up to work on it. I also got several covers over the weekend. One of which is going to be the cover for Raven’s Fate. I received a new logo as well over the last couple of days. Thank you to Saruuh at LSKDesigns for my new logo.

IWSG Question:

If you could pick one place in the world to sit and write your next story, where would it be and why?

That’s a hard question to answer. There are a few locations I can think of that I would love to visit and write my next book. One of those locations is New Zealand. As a fan of The Lord of the Rings I fell in love with the place when I saw the behind the scenes footage after watching the movies. Also, to be able to tour the movie set(s) and locations would be great to do. Another place would be Scotland or Ireland. Once again because of the landscapes and histories of those two countries.

In the United States, it would be New Orleans or Savannah. Both cities have a supernatural history that I would love to explore and learn more about.

That’s it for now. Look forward to your comments. 🙂
