Writing Process Blog Tour

I got tagged to write about my writing process by my friend and fellow writer Nancy Gray who was one of the top 5 finalists in The Dark Crystal Author Quest.  So, here I go…

What am I working on?

My current project is a young adult fantasy/horror series. It’s about two vampire siblings who are living in New Orleans at the time of Hurricane Katrina and an old enemy resurfaces to try and finish what was started with their parents. The first book is about them surviving the hurricane and dealing with the old enemy returning. The second book deals with their back story and what happened to their parents. The third and final book sees the end of the enemy and their coven moving on.

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Well, it’s similar to the Twilight series but with one exception my vampires don’t sparkle and they get along with the wolves from day one. The vampires and wolves in my series are a combination of a lot different types that are out there. I couldn’t say that they are more like what we think vampires and wolves are based on lore. My characters are modern because they live in modern times but at the same time they are very old.

Why do I write what I do?

I write because I love it. Writing is something that I love to do and I’m not doing it just to try and get published. I hope to one day be a published author. The writing gives me an escape from the real world for a little while. I love to get into the lives of my characters and start writing their stories. I write Fantasy, Horror, Paranormal, Steampunk, and Urban Fantasy genres because they are my favorite genres to read.

How does my writing process work?

When an idea hits me I start an outline and keep a notebook handy to jot down notes. Then, I move onto to creating a mind map of the story from the outline and the notes. After that, I set up the timeline and the world they’ll be living in. When most of that is done I start writing.

Okay, that’s it for my entry. I would have tagged someone but there are way too many to do that. So, I’m throwing out the invite to everyone to write an entry about your writing process. If you choose to participate please share the link here in the comments. 🙂

Today’s creature is the Wendigo. The term was coined by the Algonquian people along the Atlantic coast and Great Lakes region of the U.S. and Canada. It is believed that the creature started out as a human and were changed when they started eating human flesh. It can be found in shows such as Supernatural, Haven, Grimm, and Charmed. In fiction, they can be found in Pet Sematary and The Orphanmaster.  Find out more about it here.

Today is about one of my favorite creatures. It’s the Unicorn. They are known to have a horn located on their foreheads. They are talked about by greek writers of natural history. In European lore, they are depicted as a white horselike or goatlike creature with a large horn and cloven hooves. More information can be found here.

Troll is today’s creature feature. The troll comes from Norse and Scandinavian lore. In Norse mythology it’s said that they live in isolated areas like mountains to be away from people. They are considered to be dangerous to humans. In Scandinavian lore, the troll is depicted in much the same way as in Norse lore. They stay away from humans and rarely help anyone. It is believed they live in family units (father and daughter, mother and son). They are usually associated with a particular landmark. The troll is seen as slow-witted and ugly.

Okay, today is going to be a little different. I’m going to be talking about my favorite show Supernatural. I’m going to try and not give any spoilers. I have been a fan of the show since the first season and it’s now season nine. It will be going into season ten in the fall of 2014. This show has featured everything from angels to wendigos. Angels and demons seem to be the popular creature lately for the show.  I like the fact that you can look up whatever creature is being featured and there is a ton of lore about it. One of my favorite sites to check out that has tons of information is Supernatural Wiki.

#AtoZChallenge: Ragnarök Prophesies

Today is about the Ragnarök Prophesies. It is a series of events that would involve a major battle that would lead to the death of a number of great figures that would include Freyr, Loki, Odin, and Thor. There would be natural disasters, and the world would be under water.  I was lucky enough to review the first two books in a series that has the Ragnarök Prophesies in them. The review of both books is below.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the books in exchange for an honest review.

Fade
The Ragnarök Prophesies: Book One

What do you do when you realize nothing in your life is what you’ve believed it to be?

When Arionna Jacobs loses her mother in a tragic accident, her world is turned upside down. She’s forced to leave her old life behind and move in with her father. Dace Matthews, a teaching assistant at her new college, is torn in two, unable to communicate with the feral wolf caged inside him.

When they meet, everything they thought they knew about life unravels. Dace has intimate access to Arionna’s mind, and something deep within her fights to rise to the surface. They don’t understand what’s happening to them or why, and they’re running out of time to sort out the strange occurrences around them.

Their meeting sets an ancient Norse prophesy of destruction in motion, and what destiny has in store for them is bigger than either could have ever imagined. Unless they learn to trust themselves and one another, they may never resolve the mystery surrounding who they are to one another, and what that means for the world.

Fade – The Ragnarok Prophesies: Book One – On Sale NOW at: Amazon US | UK | DE |FR | IT | ES | Barnes and Noble | Kobo

My review of Book One:

Great book. I couldn’t put it down. A.K.’s writing style is great. I love books that involve Norse mythology. The world and the characters A.K. has created are great. We are introduced to Arionna as she moves in with her dad and starts to learn things around town are not what they seem to be. She meets Dace. They start a relationship. Along the way they learn things about themselves and their relationship that sets into play an ancient prophesy. I would highly recommend the book. It’s a great read for anyone who loves books that involve mythology, shapeshifters, and other beings. I look forward to reading more books by A.K.

Fall
The Ragnarök Prophesies: Book Two

How do you save someone who doesn’t want to be saved?

Those called to stand guard against the end are broken, and Sköll and Hati run free. Now Arionna Jacobs and Dace Matthews face a threat unlike any before. Ragnarök is coming and they aren’t strong enough to stop it.
Arionna thought she understood sacrifice, but she never counted on her destiny tearing Dace apart. Ever since she nearly died, he has been consumed with guilt. Now it threatens to turn him into the monster he always feared.
It’s up to Arionna to stop him before it’s too late, but the path to hell is paved with good intentions, and Dace is hurtling toward self destruction. This time, Arionna isn’t sure she can save him from himself. Can she convince him to let the past go, or is her true destiny to sacrifice her heart in exchange for the lives of the people she loves?

FALL– The Ragnarök Prophesies: Book Two – On sale NOW at: Amazon | Barnes and Noble | KOBO

My review of Book Two:

I couldn’t put it down. In this one we find Arionna and Dace still fighting the enemy tied to the prophesy. They are learning more about their destiny and the parts they play. Arionna is trying to keep Dace from self destruction but is scared she can’t. There are a few twists and turns that will keep a person reading the book. Arionna faces things that would send a normal person down for the count but Arionna isn’t normal in the sense of the normal. There are a few extra qualities to her. Want to find out what they are then pick up copies of the first book and this one. It’s a great series. I look forward to reading more of it.
