Adana the Earth Dragon by Debbie Manber Kupfer

Happy Earth Day! Adana the Earth Dragon is officially out in the World Today!

AdanaEarthCropped
Hi everyone! I’m here! Today’s the day that my book ADANA THE EARTH DRAGON finally is released into the world. Want to read a sample? Sure you do:
Once upon a time there was a small brown dragon called Adana. Adana was an earth dragon and Adana was very sad. She longed to play with the other dragons, but none of them would accept her as a friend. “It’s because I’m small and brown and boring” she said. “No one wants to be friends with an earth dragon.”
The air dragons would soar through the sky, their wings outstretched. Adana wished she could join them up in their playground of clouds, but she had no wings.
The water dragons would glide effortlessly through the lagoon, playing tag and Marco Polo. Adana yearned to join in their games, but sadly she could not swim.
The fire dragons scared little Adana with their tremendous scaly scarlet forms and flames that could toast two hundred marshmallows with one puff. Adana secretly tried gargling with fire water to see if she might make a flame, but she only gave herself a sore throat. Poor Adana, she could never be a fire dragon.
So sad little Adana slunk into her cave, curled up in a corner, and took a nap.

I’m really excited today because I get to reveal the brand new awesome cover for the next book in the P.A.W.S. Saga, LONDINIUM. The cover was created by the hugely talented Rachel Bostwick who also made the cover for the new box set of books 1 to 3 that are now available on Amazon.

So here goes – drum roll please – LONDINIUM (The P.A.W.S. Saga 4), on presale now.

londinium

“The pea soup has spoken,” said Caradog. “You are destined for Londinium.”
“Londinium?” asked Miri.
“It was the ancient city from which London sprang. The P.A.W.S. Institute of Londinium is the oldest in the world. It started before the city of today existed and straddles the old and the new. Unfortunately, today it is run by a fool.”

Join Miri as she continues her journey through Umbrae and Londinium with the help of werecats, wild warlocks, an old dog, a duck, and a whole lot of pea soup.

The P.A.W.S. Saga continues with Londinium.

Need to catch up?

You can do that all in one place with a brand new box set of books 1 to 3. Now available on Amazon.

Umbrae by Debbie Manber Kupfer

Excerpt:

The streets of Safed were crowded with tourists and locals mingling, laughing, buying and selling. Scholars sitting in cafes, studying Kabballah or arguing about football or politics. Tourists taking photographs. Little boys in peyot and skullcaps kicking balls around, posing for photographs. Grown men with dark coats, black hats, and long beards in earnest conversation. Some hiding their faces from the tourists with the cameras.

As Miri walked she thought about the scene that she’d uncovered from the book. So that’s how it happened—how Omama had escaped from the Nazis. She wished she could talk to her, ask her all the questions that were burning inside her. Why had Omama kept her magic a secret from Miri through all the years she was growing up?

Miri had a few shekels in the pocket of her skirt. She walked up to a falafel stand.

“Hetzi falafel, bvakasha.”

She hoped she’d asked for half a falafel. Miri had learned a few words of Hebrew in the weeks she’d been in Israel. Not many though, not enough. Her thoughts strayed back to the book, the purple book with Argentum on the cover. She should go back and try to decode more of the words. But it was hard, so hard.

Hebrew was grueling. She’d flirted with French in Saul Emmanuel, but Hebrew was a different animal altogether. She stumbled over the unfamiliar characters in frustration. As a small child, reading English had come easy to her. She had devoured stories from an early age. Here everything was stilted and difficult. It frustrated her to pick up a newspaper and not just be able to scan the headlines. If she applied herself, she might be able to decipher a word or two.

As she reentered the Hakessem compound, a young girl greeted her. She was eleven years old and had her dark brown hair tied in two long braids. “How was your class with Abba, Miri?” she asked.

“It was good, Rifka, I was able to read the beginning of my book.”

“Will you read it to me?”

“Later, maybe.” Celia’s words seemed so personal. Now that she’d unlocked the first scene, she already felt she understood so much more. The Rabbi had said she could share the stories with Rifka, that in fact it was important to do so lest they be forgotten, but Miri wasn’t sure she was ready to share.

Argentum . . . silver. Magical powers.

The death of Alistair has brought a measure of peace and calm to those at P.A.W.S., but his silver charm remains in Miri’s possession and it seems to almost have a life of its own.

Nightmares and questions torment Miri until the charm mysteriously disappears and Jessamyn seeks help from Quentin, who claims to have repented his past association with Alistair. But can he be trusted?

And what of Jenna, a young girl once held captive by Alistair who carries a terrible secret—a secret that could determine the future of P.A.W.S.

 My Review:

This was a very enjoyable read. Debbie’s writing style is great. I couldn’t put it down.  I love the characters and the plot. We are introduced to Miri as her world is turned upside and she learns things about herself and her family that she didn’t want to believe. Miri finds herself in a new place surrounded by people like her. Her new friends help her to deal with her new powers. She learns that people might not always be what they seem to be. I highly recommend it to others. I look forward to reading more books by Debbie.
