Interview with Marie Treanor

Thank you to Marie Treanor, author of the recently released book Blood Chills,  for answering a few questions about herself and her writing. 🙂

1.       What books have influenced your life most?

Goodness, that’s surprisingly hard to answer! There are loads of books I’ve loved and lost myself in, from classics to contemporary romances and thrillers, and I know they must influence my writing and my outlook on life to some extent. However, trying to narrow it down…  I suppose I first got hooked on reading by Enid Blyton’s children’s books and by Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women! A children’s biography of Mary Queen of Scots I read when I was 9 – I can’t even remember its name since it belonged to a friend – made me want to study history – which I went on to do at university. Then The Masqueraders and The Talisman Ring by Georgette Heyer introduced me to the idea of humour and romance in writing. Jane Eyre and Daphne du Maurier’s Rebecca began my love affair with Gothic romance, while Bram Stoker’s Dracula, and later Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire sold me on the undead for life 🙂

2.       What inspired you to write your first book?

The discovery of ebook romances and the birth of my daughter :). I’d been writing historical novels, which were very time-consuming in terms of research and sheer length, and while investigating the possibilities of e-publishing, I discovered the wealth of imagination and talent in the romance genres. With less time on my hands, but determined to keep writing, I decided to try a novella – a paranormal romance called Ghost Unlaid. I was lucky enough to sell it right away to an epublisher (and in fact  it’s available now at The Wild Rose Press :).

3.       Did you know you always wanted to be a writer?

Yes, I did – almost as soon as I could hold a pencil I was scribbling stories and plays for my friends to perform in 🙂

4.       What advice would you give to a new author?

To read as well as write constantly, to take account of constructive criticism, and never to give up!

5.       Do you have a specific writing style?

I suppose I must have, but it isn’t conscious – I just write! I like humour and intensity of emotion and I hope those come through in my writing.

6.       If you could be any character from one of your books, who would you be?

Yikes, they all have much more exciting lives than me! Not sure I could handle it in reality :). I would like to be someone much more capable and decisive – like Cyn in Blood Chills… Or maybe Elizabeth Silk, who grew from someone a little bit like me into a self-confident, capable, kick-ass-when-necessary kind of a woman – and of course she does have the most powerful of vampire of all time as her lover 🙂

Many thanks for interviewing me!

Blood Chills (Blood Hunters #5) by Marie Treanor Review

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Blood Chills (Blood Hunters #5)

From sensitivity to sensuality…with the vampire who chills her blood

Cyn can sense undead presence from a touch, from the feel of the air. Her gift leads her mercenary band of hunters on the trail of a monster who’s killed two women in New York – to the being Cyn least wants to set eyes on again: the Hungarian vampire, Bela.

Now the iconic violinist with a local rock band, Bela seems less interested in proving his innocence – if, indeed, he is innocent – than in seducing Cyn – no easy task when the very presence of vampires sickens her. Plus Cyn wants revenge for the murdered women, and for her partner Rudy who lies in hospital, critically injured.

But neither Cyn’s gifts, nor the killer she pursues, are exactly what they seem. Allying with Bela might be a lethal mistake, but as everyone she loves comes under attack, Cyn finally learns to trust her instincts, and discovers much more than the intense physical pleasures behind her chills.

Great book. I couldn’t put it down. Marie is a great author. I love the plot. Cyn is a great female lead character. If you haven’t read this series then you need to add it to your to be read list. I look forward to reading more of her books. Would recommend the series to anyone who loves to read books involving vampires.
